Since going to press with our story, there have been some changes in plans for the Balearia Bahamas Express ferry between the Port of Miami and Bimini. Due to continued construction on the passenger terminal in the Port of Miami, the ferry has changed its opening date from mid-July to mid-August. The good news is that they've created a website expressly for the new ferry: www.ferryexpress.com. Passengers will be able to check schedules and book tickets on the website, although the site looks to still be under construction, since at first glance a contact phone number was absent.

Travelers will now find it easier to zip back and forth between Miami and Bimini. The Balearia Bahamas Express is a jet-powered high-speed ferry presently docked in the Port of Miami awaiting its mid-July inaugural voyage to Bimini.
The high-speed ferry makes daily trips to and from Bimini Bay Resort & Marina, where vacationers can find accommodations, restaurants, pools, two marinas, water sports, a children’s activity center and a shopping village. The crossing from Miami to Bimini takes around two hours. The vessel carries 450 passengers and departs Miami at 9 a.m. and returns at 8 p.m. Onboard amenities include a cafe bar, a duty-free store and a casino. Balearia is offering initial one-day excursions at $99 plus taxes.
