A Wellness Vacation at Jewel Paradise Cove

Feb 05, 2015

All-inclusive resort companies are always looking for ways to lift themselves above the pack. The trick is delivering on all the expected bells and whistles of an all-inclusive vacation while managing to get the attention of a passionate target market. Jewel Paradise Cove Beach Resort & Spa has managed to do this by going the extra mile and attracting health and wellness travelers intent on maintaining their fitness levels while on vacation.

Jewel Paradise Cove, the third all-inclusive Jewel resort to open in Jamaica, is located in Runaway Bay on the island’s north coast. Guests at the adults-only resort can keep in shape on a challenging 10-station parcourse (fitness trail) that spans the entire property with strategically placed workout stations.

What’s more, the resort’s on-site fitness center offers a roster of classes and activities that includes water aerobics, spinning, nature trail hikes, reggae and Soca (a genre of Caribbean music) dance classes. In addition to a resident fitness instructor skilled in yoga and spinning, the resort also invites visiting fitness professionals throughout the year to host special sessions in popular disciplines.

Jewel Paradise Cove offers a number of yoga-themed weeks. Upcoming yoga weeks are May 10-16 (incorporating Mothers’ Day), Aug. 16-22 and Dec. 6-12. These three scheduled yoga weeks will also be built into the all-inclusive package.

In the past, all-inclusive resorts were famous for their buffets. Though they tended to have healthy options of some kind, much of the food consisted of comfort food favorites, such as burgers, pizzas and fries, washed down with soft drinks or beer. Jewel Paradise Cove, however, puts the emphasis on healthy food and beverage options.

A favorite dining option with health-minded travelers is the resort’s fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies. These are available during breakfast or from the resort’s Main Beach Smoothie Bar, which is open from noon to 5 p.m. daily.

The beachfront Radiant Spa experience is available at all three Jewel resorts. The spas have two saunas and two steam rooms; a chakra-aligned Vichy shower treatment room; and an outdoor hydrotherapy experience in a couple-size hot tub. An in-ocean, two-therapist massage is a Radiant Spa specialty.

A range of wellness packages are available at all three Jewel Resorts in Jamaica, including Jewel Dunn’s River Beach Resort & Spa and the family-friendly Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort. These packages are at an additional cost to the basic all-inclusive rate. Sample wellness packages include the following.

Back to Nature
Priced at $440, the package contains a morning or sunset nature walk, a Sugar Cane Body Exfoliation treatment, a Four Hands Water Massage, a Deep Cleansing Seaweed Facial, a Rose Petal Manicure and Pedicure, and a private yoga session.

The New You
This package, priced at $225, includes 30 minutes of private yoga (with a choice of morning or sunset session), a Caribbean Body Polish exfoliation treatment, a detoxifying Seaweed Body Wrap and a revitalizing chakra aligned Vichy Experience.

One A Day
Clients can enjoy daily spa rituals and exercise sessions with the One a Day special offer, priced at $950. Day one includes a private spinning session, a yoga session and a back and neck massage, for example, while day six includes a private yoga session and an 80-minute hot stone massage.

The Oneness
The Oneness package includes a couples’ meditation session massage for two, an aromatic bath, a private sunset Pilates session and a candlelit dinner for two. The package costs $450.
