By 2006, all 12 of Holland America’s vessels will provide a living
room-cum-library lounge, “Explorations Cafe powered by The New York
Times,” a setting where passengers can sip cappuccino, browse
through a selection of more than 2,000 books, surf the Internet,
enjoy music selections and use grease pencils to do the eponymous
crossword puzzles that will adorn the cafe’s glass table tops. The
first cafe, on the ms Ryndam, already has its fans.
This is one of the highlights of Holland America’s $225 million
“Signature of Excellence” initiative, which also includes an
Explorations Guest Speaker Series on all cruises lasting 10 days or
longer.
