This spring through fall, Peter Deilmann’s 96-passenger MV
Casanova will sail Europe’s second longest waterway on seven-, 10-
and 11-night itineraries. Along the Danube, the intimate ship will
stop in Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Serbia and Romania,
giving guests the opportunity to explore both popular and
lesser-known European destinations.
With departures running from July through October, the
Casanova’s three seven-night itineraries include one roundtrip from
Munich and two that sail between Budapest and Munich. In addition
to the famed cities of Vienna and Budapest, the Casanova will also
visit the medieval villages of Austria’s Durstein, where King
Richard the Lion-Hearted of England was held by Duke Leopold V
during the Third Crusade in 1193; Melk, the site of a massive
Benedictine monastery; and Bratislava, Slovakia, a former frontier
post for the Roman Empire.
In Vienna, optional tours include a cycling adventure and a
walking tour of Schonbrunn Palace and, in Budapest, a full-day tour
of Lake Balaton, Central Europe’s largest lake. Prices range from
$1,635 to $2,640 per person, based on double occupancy.
The longer cruises, Casanova’s 10- and 11-night cruises, depart
July 26 and Aug. 5 respectively, and offer the same stops in
reverse directions. Port calls include Orsova, Romania, which is
known for its oak forests and the St. Ana Monastery; Russe,
Bulgaria, home to the Pantheon of National Revival heroes and a
plethora of museums and churches; and Mohacs, Hungary, the site of
the charming Szechenyi Square and Djami Protestant church.
The 11-night itinerary also includes a stop in Melk. From
Belgrade, Serbia, an optional tour is available to visit
Montenegro, the world’s newest country. Prices range from $3,310 to
$4,080 per person, based on double occupancy.
Guests have the option of purchasing excursion packages in
advance. The city and museum tours cost $160 for five excursions on
the seven-night cruise and $225 for six excursions on the 10- and
11-night cruises. Additionally, Casanova offers two-night pre- and
post- hotel packages at Hotel Koenig in Passau ($395); Le Meridian
in Munich ($475); and the InterContinental in Prague ($465). Prices
are per person and based on double occupancy, and upgrades are
available for the Imperial or Four Seasons in Prague.
The MS Casanova, which was recently refurbished, offers one of
the best guest to crew ratios in the industry, offering one
crewmember for every 2.5 guests. The ship features original art, a
bar, a single seating restaurant, lounge and sundeck. Upper deck
staterooms feature full-length French doors and each cabin has a
