Unique World Cruises is introducing Adriatic cruises on a
39-year-old vessel to the North American market for the first time
this year.
The Dalmacija, a 300-passenger ship, operates the nine-day
cruises roundtrip from Venice.
The itinerary includes visits to Korcula Island, Croatia, the
birthplace of explorer Marco Polo; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Corfu, a
Greek island; Kotor, a preserved medieval town in Montenegro;
Split, Croatia; and Rovinj, a Croatian artist colony and tourist
resort first established by Viennese society.
Fares for outside staterooms start at $1,798, including
international air on Austrian Airlines from New York and the
domestic flight from Los Angeles or San Francisco.
“It’s cheaper to go on this cruise than to go on a land tour,”
said Misha Radulovic, president of Unique World Cruises, which
specializes in travel to Croatia, Russia, Ukraine and Eastern
Europe.
He said commissions are 12 to 17 percent. Discounts of up to 25
percent can be arranged on select departures for groups, he said,
and one free berth and air is given for a minimum of 10
passengers.
Though built in 1965, the Dalmacija was renovated in 1999 and
2002 but retained its classic atmosphere heavy on mahogany and
brass, Radulovic said. The ship, he added, is equipped with “the
latest navigational aids, satellite communications, stabilizers”
and certification in line with the Safety of Life at Sea
requirements.
Much of the Dalmacija’s all-Croatian crew has been with the ship
for 20 years, Radulovic said.
The official languages onboard are English and German.
“This cruise has been very popular with travelers from the U.K.,
Germany, Austria and Italy,” Radulovic said. “This is the first
year on the U.S. market.”
