The Orient Lines’ Marco Polo will return to Antarctica for a new
season of expeditions that range from 11 to 33 days. The classic
ship will provide a unique opportunity to experience the White
Continent. Designed originally as an icebreaker, the Marco Polo’s
reinforced hull allows the captain to navigate the striking
landscape of Antarctica for an up-close encounter with wildlife and
scenery. Passengers will also be able to go ashore on inflatable
Zodiak expedition boats, specifically designed for exploration.
Weather permitting, visits to Antarctic sights of interest will
include major penguin rookeries. The Marco Polo features an
experienced team of biologists, geologists, ornithologists and
historians who will provide informative lectures throughout the
journey. Passengers will also receive distinctive red parkas for
use on shore excursions.
Included in the Marco Polo’s Antarctic lineup is a 33-day Voyage to
Antarctica that departs Dec. 6. The odyssey will take passengers
from the beaches of the Caribbean to the snowscapes of Antarctica,
with calls in Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina along the
way. Among the highlights is a chance to visit the mystical lost
city of Machu Picchu.
An 18-day Antarctica & Chilean Fjords cruise departs Dec. 21
from Santiago to Ushuaia, sailing along the majestic Chilean coast.
A series of 11-day Antarctica Peninsula cruise expeditions depart
on Jan 3, 11, 19 and 27, 2006. The expeditions include an eight-day
luxury cruise, two-night first-class or deluxe hotel stay in Buenos
Aires, plus a half-day sightseeing tour of Ushuaia and Buenos
Aires.
A 20-day Antarctica & the Falklands cruise from Ushuaia to Rio
de Janeiro departs Feb. 5, 2006.
