Sea Cloud Cruises has updated the sailing return date for its two-ship fleet, as well as released the date for its brand-new vessel, Sea Cloud Spirit. Sea Cloud and Sea Cloud II will resume sailing in August, and the upcoming Sea Cloud Spirit will launch on Sept. 14, 2021.
The 136-guest Sea Cloud Spirit was just delivered to the company from the shipyard in Vigo, Spain, and is gearing up for its 10-night inaugural voyage roundtrip from Rome. Its maiden season will traverse the Western Mediterranean in the fall and Spain’s Canary Islands in the winter.
Sea Cloud executives described the new vessel as “a nice alternative for younger guests looking for a smaller cruise experience,” with modern balcony cabins, flexible dining and a spa and wellness area aboard a traditional sailing ship.
Among its 69 exterior cabins, 25 will feature verandas, including its trio of owner suites. The spa space will be outfitted with three treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna, a steam bath and a hairdressing salon, as well as a separate fitness area on the sundeck.
Powered by about 44,100 square feet of sail and a low-consumption, hybrid machine (diesel-electric) engine, Sea Cloud Spirit will be eco-friendly; most cruising will be carried out by wind alone.
“It takes the crew almost one hour to hoist the sails by hand, and it is a fascinating spectacle each and every time,” Sea Cloud said in a statement. “Once firmly enveloped in a romantic tall ship setting, you will understand just why traveling on the new Sea Cloud Spirit is the most beautiful part of the adventure.”
