Although global cruising has been taking place for some time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was slow to allow ships to set sail from the U.S. — until now.
Smaller ocean operators, such as American Cruise Lines and UnCruise Adventures were some of the first to start sailing from local homeports months ago, but it was not until Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Edge embarked on June 26, 2021, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., that a mainstream ship took to the seas from the U.S.
Just one week later, corporate cousin Royal Caribbean International joined in, as well as Carnival Cruise Line. On July 3, Royal’s Freedom of the Seas set sail from Miami, while Carnival’s Carnival Vista left from Galveston, Texas. On July 4, Carnival Horizon also departed from Miami. These four initial ships are just the start to this summer’s cruise season; here’s a roundup of the many others that are slated to restart from the U.S. over the next few months.
