Viking already has six ocean ships in its relatively young seagoing fleet. Two more — Viking Mars and Viking Neptune — are scheduled to launch in 2022, and then coming in early 2023 will be the newly named Viking Saturn as the ninth.
“The thousands of guests who sailed our Welcome Back voyage in Iceland this past summer enjoyed the experience so much they provided record-level ratings,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking, in a press release. “These new itineraries are ideal for curious travelers and trace routes of the early Viking explorers to Iceland and other North Atlantic destinations known for their natural beauty. We look forward to welcoming Viking Saturn to our fleet and to offering guests even more ways to explore this unique part of the world in comfort.”

As on previous ships, the 47,800-ton, all-veranda Saturn will carry 930 guests in 465 staterooms and showcase the line’s signature venues, ranging from the double-decker Explorers’ Lounge for scenic observation and the LivNordic Spa with its complimentary thermal suite to a pair of pools (one main and another infinity-style) and a plethora of free restaurants and room service options.
Saturn will debut three inaugural itineraries: There will be a 15-day Iconic Iceland, Greenland & Canada route between New York City and Reykjavik (featuring the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia); a 15-day Iceland & Norway’s Arctic Explorer journey that will cross the Arctic Circle toward the North Cape (and ports such as Bergen and Longyearbyen); and an even longer 29-day option of Greenland, Iceland, Norway & Beyond, which will combine the two.
The classic eight-day Iceland’s Natural Beauty itinerary roundtrip from Reykjavik will continue to be offered in 2023 onboard sister ship Viking Star, the line’s first ocean vessel.
