Meet Robotron, MSC Seascape’s Newest Deck Attraction

Carnival Cruise Line was the first cruise line to install a full-fledged roller coaster on a ship when Bolt: Ultimate Sea Coaster launched on Mardi Gras. Disney Cruise Line then upped the ante on its latest ship, Disney Wish, with not just another water coaster, but what it dubs to be the line’s first attraction at sea: the AquaMouse.

And now, MSC Cruises is throwing its hat in the ring with Robotron, coming to the line’s upcoming MSC Seascape,  which will sail from Miami starting in December 2022.

“We are excited to give our guests more access to cutting-edge experiences, which is why MSC Cruises is committed to bringing our newest ships to the U.S.,” said Ruben A. Rodriguez, president of MSC Cruises USA. “We’re the first cruise line to offer something like Robotron at sea, and we can’t wait for thrill-seekers to discover the ride of their life surrounded by the beauty of the Caribbean.”

MSC Seascape is part of the line’s Seaside class. The first two ships of the class — MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview — feature a pair of racing ziplines on the upper decks. However, on the third ship, MSC Seashore, that attraction was missing. And the fourth, Seascape, is looking to change  yet again by introducing what is described by the line as “a state-of-the-art robotic arm with an attached gondola that seats three guests — flying them nearly 175 feet above the sea.”

Taking in 360-degree outdoor views, riders will be suspended over the side of the deck and moved in all directions (including flipped upside down). Clients will even be able to set the intensity level, from “family-friendly” to “high-thrill,” as well as select mood lighting and ride music. Positioned in front of a giant video screen, the ride will then move and pulse in sync to the DJ-like tunes and setting.

But that’s not all, according to Rodriguez, who added: “Our new virtual reality motorcycles and flight simulator — plus fan favorites like the MSC Formula Racer and XD Cinema — will also feature truly immersive experiences, providing the most exhilarating lineup of rides we’ve ever offered.”

The VR motorcycles will make riders feel like they’re at the racetrack — complete with wind and water effects to enhance the sensation — and the VR 360° Flight Simulator will utilize virtual reality headsets and its own special effects to kinetically dive into a thrilling variety of virtual worlds. Another popular experience will be the signature MSC Formula Racer, which will simulate racing in an actual driver’s seat with additional effects.

Lastly, the line’s Immersive XD Cinema will invite participants to don 3D glasses and battle the likes of zombies, skeletons and other foes with laser guns. A winner will be crowned at the end of each ride.

MSC Seascape will sail on a 17-night MSC Grand Voyage on Nov. 19, 2022, from Civatavecchia (Rome) to Spain, Portugal and Bermuda on its way to New York City, where the ship will be officially named on Dec. 7, 2022.

Then, the ship will depart PortMiami year-round, alternating between the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Eastern itineraries will visit Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve and Nassau, the Bahamas; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Western itineraries will call on Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve; Cozumel, Mexico; George Town, Cayman Islands; and Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
