Two new hotels, Aloft Bangalore, Whitefield, and Aloft Chennai,
OMR Sholinganallur, will open in India under Starwood Hotels and
Resorts Worldwide, Inc. The development stems from a partnership
with Urbanedge Hotels Private Limited, a joint venture between
Citigroup Property Investors and Auromatrix Hotels Private
Limited.
“Its exotic landscapes, rich cultural heritage and booming
economy make India one of the world’s most vibrant markets and a
perfect match for the energy and vitality of Aloft hotels,” said
Brian McGuinness, vice president of Aloft and Element hotels.
“We’re thrilled to bring a bold new lodging alternative to the
‘land for all seasons’ with the arrival of our two new Aloft hotels
in Bangalore and Chennai.”
Opening in 2010, Aloft Bangalore, Whitefield, will include 170
rooms, a large restaurant and more than 8,500 square feet of
meeting space. The hotel will be located in one of the city’s two
major centers of Information Technology industries, in what is
referred to as the “Silicon Valley” of India.
Also opening in 2010, the 140-room Aloft Chennai, OMR
Sholinganallur will be located on the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR),
the hub for IT development in Chennai. The hotel will offer over
5,000 square feet of meeting space and a restaurant.
Akin to W Hotels, Aloft combines urban-influenced design,
accessible technology, style and a social atmosphere. The loft
rooms feature nine-foot ceilings, oversized windows and a signature
bed to create an open environment. Oversized walk-in showers and
amenities by Bliss spa are also included.
Each loft contains a combination office and entertainment center
that features wireless Internet and plug & play, a connectivity
solution for electronic gadgets that links to a flat panel
HDTV.
Designed in conjunction with David Rockwell and the Rockwell
Group, Aloft Bangalore, Whitefield, and Aloft Chennai, OMR
Sholinganallur will offer atmospheric public spaces to draw clients
from their rooms to socialize. In the communal lobby area, re:mix,
and bar W xyz, guests can read, use hotel-wide wireless Internet
and play pool. Other amenities include the re:charge fitness
center; Splash, the indoor and outdoor pool; and re:fuel, a 24-hour
food and beverage area.
“We are excited to introduce Aloft to India and look forward to
offering visitors a fresh, fun and inspiring atmosphere,” said
Miguel Ko, president, Asia Pacific, Starwood Hotels and Resorts
Worldwide, Inc. “Our key development partners have assisted us in
refining our prototype and signature features to create a product
that travelers to Aloft in India will love.”
In the past year, Starwood has signed deals to open new hotels
in markets throughout India, including two new Sheratons, three new
Westins and the two Aloft hotels.
The first Aloft hotels are targeted to open in the U.S. in 2008,
with hundreds of properties worldwide expected by 2012.
