High Society at the Four Seasons Hotel Amman

May 04, 2010

Four Seasons Amman // (c) 2010

The top choice for government dignitaries and corporate executives, the Four Seasons Hotel Amman also appeals to sophisticated leisure travelers. During our stay, we shared the elevators with the president of Brazil, who was attending meetings on trade and tourism, as well as visitors with an Abercrombie & Kent group.

All creamy gold Jordanian stone and marble, the Four Seasons is perched on a hilltop between the financial district and an upscale residential area. Columns galore hint at the grand monuments of Jordan’s ancient past, and a field of sheep graze across the highway. But in all other respects, the hotel has a totally modern feel.

The spacious 192 rooms and suites are done in gold, camel and teal colors and have sweeping city views. The spa area is plush, and after a day touring Jerash and Ajloun, we enjoyed swimming laps in the large indoor pool, which has a domed ceiling with star-shaped blue glass skylights (there’s an outdoor pool open in warmer weather too).

Dining is excellent. The Oriental restaurant serves a cross-over menu of Chinese dim sum, Japanese sushi (with silver chopsticks) and lightly prepared Thai curries. Italian fare at the romantic Vivace includes black truffle risotto and braised beef cheeks with Portobello mushroom.
