What: American Queen Voyages Launches Overnight Stays in Michigan and Canada
American Queen Voyages has announced three new Great Lakes sailings for fall 2022, and for the first time in the cruise line’s history, guests will have evening shoreside options with overnights in select destinations.
Our valued travel advisors and guests shared how much they enjoy overnights in port while cruising Europe, so we adjusted these autumn voyages to offer opportunities to explore similar storied ports after the sun goes down here in North America.
The spots where the line will overnight are Mackinac Island, Mich., and Montreal, Toronto and Quebec City in Canada. The itineraries with overnight stays include the 15-day Montreal to Chicago sailing (Sept. 5); the 15-day Chicago to Montreal voyage (Sept. 18); and a 12-day roundtrip from Montreal (Oct. 1).
Why It Matters: Overnight Cruise Stays Are a Unique Selling Point, Especially Now
As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, many cruisers are still hesitant to travel overseas. Domestic and North American cruise itineraries provide a unique alternative, and American Queen is further enticing passengers with the opportunity to explore these great destinations. In general, overnight cruise stays are popular with travelers because it gives them more time to experience a place, as well as a chance to sample the dining and nightlife. Travel advisors can use these itineraries to highlight a different aspect of a Great Lakes cruise.

What They Are Saying: Travel Advisors Have an Affinity for Overnight Stays
"Our valued travel advisors and guests shared how much they enjoy overnights in port while cruising Europe, so we adjusted these autumn voyages to offer opportunities to explore similar storied ports after the sun goes down here in North America,” said Shawn Bierdz, chief operating officer for American Queen Voyages. “Sunset strolls along the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal and sipping a warm cider during a Mackinac Island carriage ride are among the moments our guests can now enjoy.”
