As the world of hoteliers dipping their toes into cruise travel expands, Mandarin Oriental is next to join in.
The luxury hotel brand will up its presence in Egypt with not only a bespoke riverboat, but also two shoreside properties in addition to the 2027 reopening of Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo.
“Together, the hotels and cruise form a fully integrated, destination-led journey between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan,” the brand said in a statement.

Mandarin Oriental, Nile Cruise
As Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s first luxury river cruise offering, Mandarin Oriental, Nile Cruise will be owned and developed by K.G. Company for Real Estate and Tourism Investment — a part of Garranah Group — and operated in collaboration with the Mandarin Oriental brand.
Currently being designed, the new vessel will embark on three-, four- and seven-night itineraries between Luxor and Aswan. An exact launch date has not yet been shared, but the riverboat “will blend a romantic feel with a contemporary finish,” according to the brand, offering generously sized suites, a trio of dining venues and a dedicated wellness space.
Leading the onboard experience will be curated cultural programming and expert-led enrichment, while immersive excursions and a fully guided journey will define Mandarin Oriental’s Egyptian travels on shore.
“For generations, our family has been deeply connected to the Nile and its stories,” said Karim Garranah, managing director of K.G. Company for Real Estate and Tourism Investment. “Partnering with Mandarin Oriental allows us to share Egypt's heritage through a new lens, one defined by exceptional care, cultural integrity and a guided journey that honors the river, its history and its people.”
Mandarin Oriental also partnered with AmaWaterways for pre- and post-cruise land programs in Europe starting this year. Featured hotel properties already encompass Barcelona; Geneva and Zurich, Switzerland; Madrid; Paris; Prague; Vienna; and Amsterdam. Budapest, Hungary, will expand the list in 2027.

In addition to the upcoming reopening of Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo, the company will assume management of two historic hotels in Luxor and Aswan to bookend its cruises. Following significant renovations of each, the brand will reopen the Old Cataract as Mandarin Oriental Old Cataract, Aswan, and the Winter Palace as Mandarin Oriental Winter Palace, Luxor, both scheduled to debut in July 2027.
Mandarin Oriental assumed management of Old Cataract in May 2026, and it is continuing operations within its heritage building as the company renovates the Nile Wing. Guests can expect views of the Temple of Khnum, overlooking the river. Besides elegant private accommodations, there will be six dining venues, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental and other spaces to look forward to.
Mandarin Oriental Winter Palace, Luxor will offer incredible Nile views and proximity to the Temple of Luxor.

Not far from the storied Temple of Luxor, the property will be outfitted with its own complement of refined rooms and suites, another six dining venues, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental and additional event spaces, all among a tranquil garden atmosphere.
The hotels are being developed in partnership with Egyptian developer Talaat Moustafa Group Holding.
“Egypt is one of the fastest-growing global destinations and presents a rare opportunity to create a journey that is both culturally rich and uniquely Mandarin Oriental,” said Laurent Kleitman, group chief executive of Mandarin Oriental. “By uniting our first river cruise with truly iconic historic hotels in Luxor and Aswan, alongside the upcoming Mandarin Oriental Shepheard, Cairo, we are introducing a seamless, end-to-end experience that unfolds across land and water. From the moment guests arrive in Egypt to the moment they depart, the journey is carefully curated through private access, expert guidance and exceptional care, offering encounters with Egypt's most significant heritage sites.”
