There’s no question that we’re addicted to our digital devices. Ninety percent of Americans own a cellphone, and these users clock three hours of screen time per day — 36 percent more time than what is spent on eating and drinking.
In 2019, active operator Austin Adventures will launch two digital detox itineraries for clients hoping to reconnect and bond in nature while totally free from distractions of the digital world.
Clients will be asked to sign a Digital Detox Pledge during the Montana: Big Sky, Yellowstone & Paradise Valley itinerary, which will be held July 7-12 (family-focused) and Sept. 1-6 (adults-only).
During the trip, guests will partake in backcountry hikes and explore Upper Geyser Basin and Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. Participants will also horseback ride into the Absaroka mountain range with a fourth-generation cowboy; soak in natural hot springs at Chico Hot Springs Resort and Day Spa; and zipline across the Gallatin River. Travelers will spot elk, bison and bears from a safe distance, too.
During this digital hiatus, guests can provide friends and family with an emergency contact number. A professional photographer will join the trip to take care of all image requests.
“Knowing how addictive our digital devices can be, we may be setting ourselves up for failure, but all of us feel compelled to try,” said Dan Austin, founder and president of Austin Adventures. “I think with a little help, a dose of empathy and some gentle guidance, we may be able to help people kick their habit for a week — and perhaps even longer.”
The price begins at $2,898 per adult and $2,608 per child, based on double occupancy. A single supplement is $580.
