Through Aug. 8, the Albuquerque Museum of Art & History will feature a special exhibition of artwork from famous Impressionists — Renoir, Manet, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Pissarro and Monet — in “Turner to Cezanne,” a unique collection of 53 works on loan from the National Museum Wales.
Highlights of the exhibit include Renoir’s famous “La Parisienne,” which was included in the first show of Impressionism in 1874, a Monet “Water Lilies” painting and Van Gogh’s panoramic “Rain-Auvers,” which was painted during the last week of the artist’s life.
“We are honored to be selected as one of five cities in the U.S. to host this important and unprecedented exhibition, giving visitors from around the Southwest the chance to see incredibly beautiful works of art by some of the world’s greatest Impressionists and Post-Impressionist artists for the first time in this country,” said Albuquerque Museum’s director Cathy Wright.
“We are grateful to the National Museum Wales for sharing their superb collection.”
The exhibition is being organized by the American Federation of Arts and National Museum Wales and is supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities.
The museum will remain open until 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings throughout the exhibition’s showing and will showcase corresponding lectures, painting classes and concerts to accompany the collection.
