Amarillo Offers Family-Friendly Events

There is seemingly no end to the list of events Amarillo has planned for the spring and early summer months. From April to June, Texas’s largest Panhandle city will be holding a wide assortment of exhibits and performances perfect for both families and visitors of all ages.

In April, the Wonderland Amusement Park will be open 1 p.m. on weekends, from April 7th through Labor Day. Wonderland just celebrated is 60th anniversary and is a great place to spend an afternoon with the kids. Ride passes are $23.95 for adults and $19.95 for children under 42 inches tall.

Also in April, everyone’s favorite green ogre will be performing in “Shrek the Musical” through Broadway Spotlight Series. Part romantic fairy tale and part comedy, this musical will offer fun for the whole family. Taking place at the Amarillo Civic Auditorium, performances are April 18 and 19. Tickets go on sale March 23.

On the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, the Working Ranch Cowboys Association (WRCA) will hold their first Championship Bronc Riding. Visitors will hang on to the edges of their seats while they watch top cowboys and cowgirls compete for the title of Champion WRCA Bronc Rider. The championship will be held at the Will Rogers Range Riders Arena on the south side of Amarillo.

If visitors want more rodeo festivities this summer, the Coors Cowboy Club Ranch Rodeo on June 1 and 2 will be sure to fill both their eyes and their appetites. Both Friday and Saturday’s events cost $12 and include food, cold drinks and a rodeo ticket. After the rodeo, visitors can dance under the stars at the Rodeo Dance.

On June 30th, the Amarillo Zoo will kick off 4th of July celebrations with the Red, White and Zoo! event. From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event will include a day of fun-filled activities, exhibits, live music and “patriotic animal activities,” such as a self-guided tour in search of red, white and blue animals. Tickets are affordable: adult tickets (ages 13 to 61) are $3 per person; senior tickets (ages 62 and over) are $2 and children tickets (ages 3-12) are $1.
