On Nov. 19, American Eagle Airlines will begin new roundtrip service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Santa Fe County Municipal Airport (SAF), and add a second daily, roundtrip flight between SAF and the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
The Santa Fe to Los Angeles flight is expected to serve visitors and professionals connected to New Mexico’s thriving film industry. The inaugural flight will be met at the airport by a delegation of airline and city dignitaries on Nov. 19.
The airline’s first Dallas to Santa Fe service began on June 11 and has been successful enough to prompt the company to add a second connection.
American Eagle's nonstop service between Dallas and Santa Fe uses the 44-seat Embraer ERJ-140 jet. This $20-million aircraft cruises at speeds of up to 500 miles per hour and at an altitude of 40,000 feet.
“It is one of the newest and most modern planes in the fleet,” said American Eagle’s managing director of sales, Brian Coutts. The same aircraft will be used for the new SAF-LAX service.
The SAF was recently upgraded to handle regional jets such as the Embraer. The airport is located on the southwestern edge of the city, about a 20-minute shuttle ride from historic downtown.
