The Anchorage Museum is one of Alaska’s top 10 visitor attractions and has unique exhibits scheduled for 2014.
In June 2013, an international team of scientists, artists and educators launched an expedition to study marine debris in southwest Alaska. The study was the first stage of the Gyre Project, which addresses oceanic pollution in Alaska and around the world.
“Gyre: The Plastic Ocean,” is a 7,500-square-foot exhibition on display during the summer of 2014. It features the work of more than 20 international artists. The Alaska section will feature the expedition’s scientific discoveries, as well as art created from items such as Japanese fishing floats and commercial fishing gear that have drifted onto Alaska’s shores. www.anchoragemuseum.org
