Fuel Cafe is the definition of unassuming.
Located in the Snowmass Village Mall in Snowmass, Colo., the cozy sandwich and coffee shop looks exactly like you might expect: a few tables and chairs, a blackboard-style menu above an open kitchen and order/pickup counter, a few tchotchkes and a sign demanding “Give me the coffee and no one gets hurt.”
But this little eatery boasts some big accolades: It’s the No 1. restaurant in Snowmass Village on TripAdvisor; it has a 4.5-star rating on Yelp (out of 5); and it holds a 4.8-star rating on Facebook (out of 5). Thanks to fast service, a friendly staff and homemade, healthful options, Fuel is a favorite of both locals and visitors, whether they’re sitting down for a hearty sandwich or panini or grabbing a bagel before a rafting trip with Blazing Adventures, located just across the way.
For breakfast, I recommend the California Burrito — which is filled with eggs, potatoes, avocado, cheddar cheese, cilantro, sour cream and salsa (pro tip: add bacon) — or the No. 6 bagel sandwich, with smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions and capers. For lunch, go with the avocado sweet potato sandwich, which has a tasty tahini poppy seed spread.
Looking for something lighter? A smoothie might do the trick (try the Green Giant or Almond Madness), or just snag a coffee drink.
No matter if you’re on the go or looking to linger, there’s nothing fancy or fussy here — just great food.
Note: In the summer, Fuel closes around 3 p.m.
