Big Sky Resort announced the start of a new seasonal weekend nonstop flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Bozeman, Mont. The new service comes from a partnership between United Airlines and the first low-cost carrier in Bozeman, Frontier Airlines. United’s decision to include Los Angeles through this summer and next winter was inspired by the popularity of its weekend service from Bozeman to San Francisco, and is the culmination of an effort by the Big Sky area to expand service to California.
Roundtrip flights for summer will last through Aug. 30 with the winter schedule set to start Dec. 20. Big Sky Resort negotiated the terms of the new service to the area and often works with partners in the community to help shoulder the cost of potential airline guarantees. In previous years, the area has had success in allowing flights from Atlanta, Chicago and San Francisco.
“The success of the San Francisco flight, as well as our other nonstops, makes Big Sky an easy choice with airlines looking to expand routes,” said Meg O’ Leary, Big Sky resort director of sales and marketing. “Big Sky’s summers attract national conferences that are strengthened with additional flights. And with our proximity to Yellowstone National Park, we’re the perfect base camp with a great variety of lodging options.”
Gallatin Field Airport will become the only airport in Montana with nonstop service to San Francisco and Los Angeles. Gallatin Field Airport (BZN), near Bozeman, is the seventh busiest airport in the Pacific Northwest providing access to Big Sky Resort, 45 miles away. With this addition, Bozeman will also add to its nonstop ski season service from San Francisco, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Denver, Seattle, Chicago, Boise and seasonal nonstop service from Detroit and Atlanta.
