To celebrate Halloween, Cheyenne,Wyo., will open its doors in late October with an assortment of eerie happenings throughout the city, such as narrated ghost tours, a mystery dinner and other chilling surprises.
The Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley, one of Cheyenne’s most popular haunted attractions, will invite passengers on a tour of the city’s haunted highways and paranormal passages while drivers tell spooky stories of Cheyenne’s past, and costumed guides will relate ghostly tales that can be tied to actual events that occurred in visited locations. Trolleys pass by haunted sites such as the State Capitol, State Supreme Building, Historic Atlas Theatre, Deselm’s Fine Art Gallery, Wyoming Home Decor and Furnishings store and Cheyenne’s F.E. Warren Air Force Base. To keep the stories fresh for repeat riders, the 90-minute tours are adjusted each year with new ghost stories and reenactments. Occasionally, members of Cheyenne Paranormal Investigations, a group of individuals who investigate, collect and analyze information to find paranormal evidence, ride the ghostly trolley tours. “We had to add more this year to meet the demand,” said Jill Pope, director of operations for the Cheyenne Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Pope said that, in addition to individual sales, the trolley also “provides numerous ghost tour charters where friends, work groups, and clubs can rent the trolley for a customized ghost tour.”
Ticketed Ghostly Trolley Tours are scheduled on Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 29-30 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. with two 26-seat trolleys operating during each time slot. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 2-12. Ghost tour charters are also available throughout the year at $95 per hour, but demand is highest in October. The Historic Plains Hotel is hosting a Tom Horn Murder Mystery dinner show on Oct. 30. While dining, guests assist in solving the “Murder on the Plains,” an ongoing mystery saga.
