Downtown Denver, which just welcomed the new 239-room Four Seasons Hotel Denver, is getting a makeover. The property, located across the street from the Denver Performing Arts Complex, is adding to the glitz and glamour of the new Theater District, with nearly 1,200 works of art by local artists, and the Four Season’s Edge Restaurant and Bar, which is becoming the place for pre-theater dinner and drinks. The restaurant features more than 750 wines, an extensive wine-by-the-glass selection and an urban street-front setting.
However, in addition to the Four Seasons, Denver’s 14th Street is in the midst of a massive redesign effort. Planned enhancements include doubling the width of sidewalks to accommodate outdoor cafes and greening the street with the planting of 300 trees. The new 14th Street will serve as an attractive pedestrian corridor, connecting the six blocks between the Colorado Convention Center and Larimer Square, a restored section of Denver’s oldest street lined with Victorian buildings that now house more than a dozen of Denver’s trendiest restaurants and clubs.
At the center of the new Theatre District is the four-square-block Denver Performing Arts Complex, the second largest arts center in the nation with 10 venues seating 10,000 people for theater, opera, symphony and dance. The complex added a new opera hall just three years ago and is in the midst of building a new symphony hall.
Adding to Denver’s glitzy new image is the fact that the city’s 202-room Ritz-Carlton, Denver received the AAA Five-Diamond Award, becoming the first hotel in Denver’s history to get the prestigious designation.
