Planet Earth Adventures is offering clients an unforgettable Alaska experience this spring, the Iditarod & Northern Lights tour. The nine-day tour begins in Anchorage, where travelers will head downtown for the start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, followed by a visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Center to learn about Alaska’s indigenous people.
The following day, clients will get to do some racing of their own on a snowmobile tour through snow-covered forests, meadows and groomed trails, which afford views of Mount McKinley. Afterward, travelers have the option of cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in Talkeetna. The day spent out in the wilderness ends with a night viewing of the Northern Lights.
On the third day, guests can take an optional scenic flight over Mount McKinley, the Shelton Amphitheater and the Great Gorge.
Other highlights of the itinerary include an overnight stay at a luxurious waterfront lodge overlooking the Chena River; browsing the artful ice sculptures of the World Ice Art Championship in Fairbanks; and an optional three-hour dog mushing tour.
The Iditarod & Northern Lights tour takes place from March 5 to March 14, 2010, and March 4 to March 13, 2011. Pricing for next year starts at $4,295 per person.
