Located in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra houses some of the city’s growing choices for eclectic entertainment, serving up a mix of traditional symphonic shows, a pops series and special concerts featuring high-profile guests such as the noted composer John Williams.
The 2010-11 season kicks off Aug. 27–29 with the Great Performances Festival: A Baroque Celebration, featuring music composed in France, Italy, Germany, England and South America. Three-concert festival passes are available and range in price from $36 to $144. Single concert tickets to the festival will go on sale in early August.
The Symphonic Series, sponsored by American Airlines, begins Sept. 10-12 with Di Wu, a finalist and audience favorite of the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Di Wu, along with special guests, will perform Beethoven’s “Emperor” concerto and selections from Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet.” Tickets are only available with season subscriptions ranging from $75 to $540.
One of the highlights of this season’s pops series is the “Cirque de la Symphonie,” a thrilling performance complete with aerialists, acrobats and contortionists set to classical masterpieces. Other shows include “From Rags to Ritzes: The Music of Irving Berlin,” “Great American Songbook with Ann Hampton Callaway,” Victor Vanacore’s “A Night at the Copa” and “Broadway Rocks” with renowned pops conductor Steven Reineke. All tickets for the pops series are available with season subscriptions ranging from $98 to $462.
Music legend Glen Campbell and Broadway star Patti LuPone will also take the stage as part of Fort Worth Symphony’s special concert series. Additionally, the symphony will host a New Year’s Eve event, “Simply Sinatra: A Tribute to Ol’ Blue Eyes,” featuring Las Vegas headliner Steve Lippia.
