Heli-Ski Packages in Alaska

The 17-year-old heli-ski operator Chugach Powder Guides has plenty to look forward to in 2013. The company has been featured in three of this fall’s ski films — “Superheroes of Stoke,” “The Dream Factory” and “Flow State”— which showcase professional skiers on heli-ski and snowcat skiing adventures through Girdwood and the Tordrillo Mountains, building buzz for the winter season.

Snowcat and heli-ski packages will be offered beginning in February for guests at Chugach Powder Guide’s Girdwood headquarters, which is home to Alaska’s only year-round, full-service resort, Alyseka Resort. Depending on snowfall, day skiers can take advantage of Chugach Powder Guide’s 2,500 acres of dynamic high alpine and snowcat terrain. Advanced skiers can join heli-skiing trips which venture into about 750,000 acres of Chugach Mountain backcountry with runs averaging 3,000 to 4,000 vertical feet.

There are many different package options to accommodate clients’ needs and preferences. Heli-ski packages start at $5,400 and $7,400 for five- and seven-day trips, respectively, including lodging at Alyseka Resort, airport transfers and some meals. Additionally, guests may book guaranteed snowcat backup seats in the event that the weather does not permit heli-skiing.

Starting at $3,800, the Heli-Ski and Alyseka Resort package combines two days of resort skiing and heli-skiing. The Snowcat and Alyseka Resort package starts at $1,488 and combines two days of resort skiing and snowcat skiing.

For the second season, heli-skiers have the opportunity to explore the North Gulf Coast of Alaska featuring untouched terrain along the coast of Kenai Fjords National Park and the Kenai Peninsula. The seven-day package starts at $10,500 per person and includes up to five hours of helicopter flight time for a group of four skiers. Advanced skiers will make multiple first descents. All meals by the resident chef, accommodations at Seward Windsong Lodge and roundtrip transportation from Anchorage are included in the package. Trips run from Feb. 23 to March 23.

Chugach Powder Guides operates by the highest safety standards, and the use of a Mammut Pulse Barryvox avalanche transceiver is included in all packages to help ensure safety on the mountain.
