Hotel Andaluz Awarded With Green Distinction

May 24, 2011

Hotel Andaluz, Albuquerque’s only Four Diamond hotel, has announced that it has been awarded with LEED Gold Green Building Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. It is currently the only historic hotel in the southwest and the second one in the whole country to have achieved this official recognition.

“The hotel underwent a $30 million dollar renovation in 2009 with an eye on sustainability,” explained Gary Goodman, Hotel Andaluz owner. “At the top of our priority list was long-term sustainability and good environmental stewardship. We are proud to have achieved this prestigious distinction.”

Based on a number of green design and construction features, Hotel Andaluz’ LEED certification recognized the positive impacts that the projects had on the broader community. The hotel uses solar heated water, high performance windows, fluorescent and LED light as well as a brand new energy management system. Results reflect the hotel’s commitment as well: Hotel Andaluz has reduced its water usage by 45 percent and recycled all of its cardboard, paper, plastic and metal and composted its food waste.

“By using less energy and water, the Hotel Andaluz saves our precious resources for our families, businesses and taxpayers; reduces greenhouse gas emissions; and contributes to a healthier environment for residents, workers and the larger community,” Goodman said.
