Hotel Maya to Add a Dash of Spice to Long Beach

May 19, 2009

Hotel Maya // (c) 2009

This July, California’s largest boutique hotel collection, Joie de Vivre, unveils the Hotel Maya in Long Beach. The 11-acre waterfront property is set to emerge from a $20 million renovation, offering southern California residents and travelers alike a compelling new reason to explore Long Beach—California’s sixth largest city, and home to the Queen Mary and Aquarium of the Pacific. The Hotel Maya features 197 guestrooms on lush tropical grounds, and offers guests an affordable urban oasis for rejuvenation and inspiration, complete with dining, entertainment, Sunday brunch, daily activities, and more. To help celebrate the opening of this Long Beach city-resort, the property is offering guests the “Mayan Journey” package, an all-inclusive resort-style experience.

Located next to the historic Queen Mary and directly across the bay from downtown Long Beach, the Hotel Maya, designed by DPS interiors and Arya architects, is a resort-style complex with five separate buildings. The newly refurbished guestrooms and suites offer bay, ocean, and garden views, as well as private balconies. The property includes a full-size heated lap pool, a Jacuzzi, and a water canal that supports private floating cabanas, plus waterfront meeting and event spaces, a fitness center, and a festive resort atmosphere.

“With its vast grounds, secluded location and spectacular waterfront views, the Maya is an unexpected and exotic resort right in the heart of southern California,” says Joie de Vivre Creative Director Matt Harvey.

Leisure guests and business travelers alike can enjoy an array of resort activities including sailing classes, bike and Segway rentals, volleyball, salsa dancing classes and the signature Fiesta Domingo brunch—all within close proximity to downtown Long Beach, and other local attractions.

In addition, Fuego restaurant at the Hotel Maya, with unsurpassed waterfront views of downtown Long Beach and the adjacent marina, offers locals and hotel guests a menu of modern coastal-Latin cuisine with a focus on marisco (fresh seafood) platters featuring shrimp, oysters, mussels, lobster and ceviche. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, guests can share a variety of savory dishes and modern Latin cocktails in the beautifully appointed dining room, or soak up the Latin vibe from the expansive outdoor patio.

To commemorate the opening of the new property guests who book the “Mayan Journey” Package, starting at $149 per person (based on double occupancy plus tax), can celebrate with an all-inclusive experience complete with breakfast, a three-course dinner at Fuego, Mexicali Chocolate at check-in, Sangria tasting at 5 p.m. daily, water taxi transportation for two, and complimentary parking. This package, which is available from July 15, 2009 through the end of the year, can also be customized for each guest to create their own getaway in the heart of Long Beach. Standard rates at the Hotel Maya start at $159-$249. Additional packages include day-trips to area attractions including Catalina Island and the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Hotel Maya, a Joie de Vivre property, is conveniently located in downtown Long Beach’s South Waterfront district, within minutes of Long Beach’s main attractions including the Queen Mary, the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Museum of Latin American Art, and the Pacific Ocean. The hotel is also the perfect place to stay before embarking on one of the many cruises departing from Long Beach, or to start or end a jaunt to Catalina. For reservations and additional information, please contact the Hotel Maya, located at 700 Queensway Drive, Long Beach, CA, 90802, visit www.hotelmayalongbeach.com or call 562.435.7676
