The Curtis Hotel opened for business on April 19th — the birthday of cartoon bad boy Bart Simpson. The date was no coincidence as The Curtis is a celebration of American pop culture.
Guests are greeted in the lobby by interactive video art, a Lite-Brite installation and a Five & Dime Store selling Orange Crush, Etch-A-Sketch toys and Lemonheads — and that’s just for openers.
Each guest floor has its own theme, too. They include: The 9th floor (Big Hair), the 14th floor (TV Mania) and the ominous 13th floor where guests will be chilled by images of Jack Nicholson in “The Shining” and a vintage vacancy notice from the Bates Motel in “Psycho.”
The hotel staff is dedicated to making each stay fun. Guests might be found in an impromptu Twister contest or a Nintendo Wii tournament in the lobby. The Cartoon Network is on ’round the clock, and classic board games are available to check out and play.
Each of the property’s 336 guestrooms has flat-screen televisions and complimentary Internet access, as well as iPod and MP3 speaker systems. There’s also a business center with fax and printing capabilities.
Lastly, in the morning, you can get a wake-up call from Austin Powers, Elvis or Yoda. Room rates start at $229 per night.
