The Seattle Mariners opened the 2013 baseball season with big changes on and off the field.
Fans at Safeco Field can now experience replays in high definition on the largest video board in the MLB. The new jumbotron consumes the entirety of center field. Additionally, the field’s fences were brought in four to 17 feet to create a more hitter-friendly park.
Safeco Field’s cuisine also has a spicy new twist. A Northwest Mexican style menu debuted with food and beverages inspired by Edgar Martinez, beloved former Mariners third baseman and designated hitter. The new restaurant, named Edgar’s Cantina, features tacos, tortas, carne asada and chicken milanese. Cocktails include the .312 (Martinez’s lifetime batting average) and the Martinez Michelada.
Safeco Field also caters to various dietary needs and restrictions. Restaurant Field Roast continues to provide vegetarian options as well as vegan and gluten-intolerant friendly dishes. The stadium’s new bites and tasty treats are available throughout the 2013 season.
