This May marked the opening of Cody, Wyoming’s newest hotel — The Cody — located on the west side of town near the Cody Rodeo Grounds.
The luxury property, which is operated by MOA Hospitality of Chicago, features 78 guestrooms with such amenities as feather pillows and comforters, terrycloth robes, oversized towels, coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators, flat-screen television, irons and ironing board, hairdryers, voicemail and free wireless and DSL access. Some rooms also feature patios, balconies, or fireplaces, while queen and king suites offer whirlpool baths and patios.
The Cody’s decor borrows greatly from the West; many rooms are decorated and named after venerable icons from the region, including Annie Oakley, Zane Grey, Sacagawea, the Sundance Kid, Gene Autry and Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.
The hotel’s Shoshone River Room can host meetings for up to 100 people and comes with wireless access and business center support. Guests are also given access to a fitness center, indoor pool and sauna and hot tub spa.
Green-minded guests will appreciate the hotel’s commitment to sustainability. The hotel is working toward obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Its complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport and to various attractions utilizes a GMC hybrid vehicle.
“The Cody was designed and built with the idea that luxury and sustainability could not only exist together, but they actually enhance the atmosphere of the hotel,” said general manager Janet Gideon. “To that end, MOA Hospitality worked with contemporary Western designer and author Thea Marx of Cody and Lana Williams of Indianapolis, to create a property that pays homage to the region’s natural beauty and history while minimizing its environmental impact.”
Other eco-friendly touches include: the use of paints with low volatile solids, guestroom doors made from recycled materials, energy-efficient heating and cooling units and even the use of biodegradable cups for to-go coffee orders.
The hotel is located 50 miles from the east gate of Yellowstone National Park and approximately 90 minutes from Billings, Mont.
