New Mexico Tourism Launches Online Culinary Trail Website

Dec 14, 2010
The New Mexico Tourism Department recently launched an online Culinary Treasures Trail, a list of 75 classic New Mexican eateries that have stood the test of time. The trail serves as a vehicle for travelers and locals to find the longstanding spots that authentically embody the culture and food of the region. Most of the cafes, diners, drive-ins and restaurants featured are family-owned and operate to help maintain a certain caliber of personal hospitality.

“New Mexico is full of venerable independently-owned spots that most New Mexicans and their visitors know quite well,” said Michael Cerletti, secretary of the New Mexico Tourism Department. “With the help of the New Mexico Restaurant Association, each Culinary Treasure chosen must have reached a minimum of 40 years of continuous service … you’re going to find something on the Trail that fits the bill.”

The Culinary Treasure Trail also highlights an interactive map of the state, allowing travelers to identify the noteworthy restaurants along their route. Included are in-depth profiles of each neighborhood hot-spot, photographs, menus and more. The locations range in style from the small homey restaurants of historic Pie Town on State Road 60 to some of the most elegant dining venues like The Compound in Santa Fe, owned by renowned chef Mark Kiffin.
