In Mescalero, N.M., the ski season is about to begin at Ski Apache, part of Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino. Starting Thanksgiving Day, skiers and snowboarders of all levels are invited to hit the slopes seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park collects an average of 15 feet of powder each season and peaks at 11,500 feet, with 55 distinct trails for all levels. Eleven lifts service these trails on the Rockies, including a four-person gondola.
Lift tickets for Ski Apache are $51 for adults, $45 for seniors (60 years and older), $41 for military personnel, $43 for teens (13-17 years) and $32 for children under age 13. Discounts are also available for groups, as well as one-day ski and snowboard rentals that are priced from $20 for adults and $12 for children.
Ski Apache also provides more than 100 instructors daily for ski and snowboarding lessons. A free lift ticket will be granted to all beginners who have signed up for instruction. For more advanced clients, the park also has three Terrain Parks which feature boxes and rails for skiing and snowboarding tricks.
In addition to its numerous trails and slopes, Ski Apache also offers many restaurants and bars, as well as the Ski Apache Sport Shop for gifts and the spacious Main Lodge, where clients can warm up by the fire.
Ski Apache opens Thanksgiving Day, and vacation packages starting at less than $200 are now available via Web site. The site also offers a live Web cam with up-to-the-minute weather updates and conditions.
