This summer will feature one of the biggest new attractions to hit the ski slopes of Whitefish Mountain Resort, Mont., since the first chair lifts were built in here in 1947. A new Zipline Tour will provide visitors with an instant adrenaline rush, combined with an interpretive tour through the alpine forest.
The zipline will be made up of four separate spans connected by short walkways, each with two parallel cables for dual-riding action. Paragliding-style seat harnesses will offer comfort and safety while riders reach speeds of 50 mph or more as they travel more than 100 feet above the ground on custom-made trolleys.
The tour is approximately two hours long and costs $59. The mountain is hoping to open the attraction on June 13 and will operate it daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Also new this summer on the slope beneath Chair 6 will be a serpentine, U-shaped Alpine Slide. Riders will take a wheeled sled up the lift, enter the track and then careen down to the bottom as fast as they dare to go.
Speed is controlled with a handbrake on each sled, and the track has high walls on fast corners that let the sleds take advantage of the physics involved in high-speed gravity-fed downhill rolling.
One ride will cost $8, or guests can purchase three rides for $20. The mountain is hoping to open the attraction along with the zipline on June 13 and will operate it daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
