Portland Farmers Market |
In 2010, the Portland Farmers Market is doubling the size of its flagship Saturday market at Portland State University. At the same time, it's adding two new visitor-friendly locations, increasing access for locals and visitors to farm-fresh produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses, seafood and more.
The popular Portland Farmers Market held on Saturday mornings at Portland State University is growing in order to accommodate its more than 16,000 weekly shoppers and 170 vendors. Widely considered one of the finest farmers markets’ in the world, the Portland Farmers Market at PSU enters its 19th season this year.
The first new market is slated for Pioneer Courthouse Square, often called Portland’s living room. It's located in the heart of downtown, near the Travel Portland Visitor Information Center, numerous boutique hotels and retail shopping outlets, and all of the MAX light rail train lines. Located at the corner of Southwest Sixth Ave. and Yamhill St., the Pioneer Courthouse Square market runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Monday from June 21-Oct. 25.
Clients can find another new market on Northwest 23rd Ave., one of the city’s top destinations for shopping and dining. This market is open from 3-7 p.m. from June 3-Sept. 30, at the southeast corner of Northwest 23rd Ave. and Savier St.
With the new locations, Portland Farmers Market -- founded in 1992 -- now operates a total of six weekly markets. These vibrant markets contribute to the success of local food growers and producers, strengthen the food economy and serve as community gathering places.
