If there is one thing that impressed me the most about the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, B.C., it was the service. From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by warm, friendly, smiling individuals who were only too happy to assist my husband and I with our luggage, check-in and even entertaining our children. Even though we arrived midway through prom night, and a crowd of teenagers were gathered in the hotel’s port cochere, we were checked-in and whisked up to our room in less than 10 minutes. And, when we realized that we’d lost our camera, the head concierge searched high and low and even called every cab company in Vancouver to try to find it. Several days after we checked out, he was still in contact with us, trying to locate its whereabouts.
However, it’s not just the service that will wow clients at this hip, new hotel. The brand-new, 377-room Fairmont Pacific Rim, which opened in February in time for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, is state-of-the-art. Our Harbour View Suite featured touch-panel contour lighting, temperature, drapes and entertainment controls both by the bedside and on the wall; a 42-inch, flat-screen HD television; an LCD television in the bathroom with a Bose sound system; wired and wireless Internet access with a desktop media panel; alarm clocks with iPod connectivity; and a Nespresso coffee maker and tea kettle. Other amenities included a Stearns & Foster Luxury Bed, Mascioni bath towels, Cologne 1888 by Miller Harris bath products and a jetted soaking tub.
The staff at the Fairmont Pacific Rim also went out of their way to welcome our children. Our 1-year-old daughter received Johnson & Johnson baby products and our 3-year-old received milk and cookies from room service.
At the hotel, clients can take advantage of a Willow Stream Spa, a fitness center, a fine-dining restaurant, a casual restaurant and a rooftop pool with private cabanas and fire pits. Additionally, the hotel offers 12,000 square feet of meeting and conference space, a multimedia theater, a business center and is located adjacent to the Vancouver Convention Centre’s expanded west wing.
With everything the Fairmont Pacific Rim has to offer, one of the best features is its lobby area, specifically the Lobby Lounge, which is constantly buzzing with activity — even into the wee hours of the morning. It’s the perfect meeting place, and despite its sleek, contemporary decor, it is a comfortable and welcoming spot for guests, who can sit beside the fire, lounge on a cozy couch or peruse the books on the bookshelf. The Lobby Lounge also offers food and drink service. One of my favorite moments during our trip was when my husband and I enjoyed a night cap and our waiter brought our girls some ice cream with M&M sprinkles. The smiles on my daughters’ faces lit up the room.
