Beaches and waterfront attractions, restaurants and hotels in Santa Barbara, Calif., remain open and unaffected by the oil spill near Refugio State Beach that occurred Tuesday, May 19, according to Visit Santa Barbara. Refugio State Beach is located 23 miles north of Santa Barbara and 13 miles north of Goleta, Calif.
Karna Hughes, director of communications for Visit Santa Barbara, said her team is actively working to overcome the misunderstanding that the oil spill occurred within the city of Santa Barbara.
“We’d like our tourism industry colleagues, their clients and the public at large to know that the beaches in the city of Santa Barbara are unaffected and pristine; hotels and businesses are open,” Hughes said. “Tourists in the city are enjoying beautiful beaches and regular waterfront and outdoors activities, in addition to shopping, museums and other attractions."
