After years of uncertainty, a 32-mile stretch of unused railway along the Santa Cruz, Calif., coast from Wastonville to Davenport will be converted to the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay Railway’s tourism train in Spring 2013.
Transporting travelers on restored vintage locomotives, the train is set to run every weekend and will feature holiday trips, including a Mother’s Day brunch and a Valentine’s Day Romance Ride. Passengers will enjoy both the indoor and outdoor scenery as the authentically restored parlor cars and two-level dome cars makes stops along the county coastline. Trains will also be fully equipped to provide guests with gourmet food service prepared onboard.
Though currently only confirmed as a tourism train, the railway may expand in the future with the installation of bicycle and pedestrian trail adjacent to the railway.
