The Seattle Maritime Festival takes place on the Seattle Waterfront from May 12-14, 2011, sponsored by the Seattle Propeller Club with support from the Port of Seattle.
This year, the annual celebration is helping to honor the 100th anniversary of the Port of Seattle. The entire festival is free and promises fun for all ages.
Among the many events offered throughout the weekend is the world's largest tugboat race on Elliott Bay, Seattle's natural deep-water harbor. More than 40 tugs and workboats join the races during Family Fun Day on Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Pier 66/Bell Harbor Marina.
Family Fun Day also features a workboat parade, chowder cook-off, boat building competition, survival suit races, harbor tours, children's activities, displays and more.
Additional festival highlights include Stories of the Sea, the 13th annual Maritime Career Day, a luncheon, working waterfront workshop and other maritime industry events.
