Fall and holiday festivities at Disneyland and California Adventure began Oct. 7 with the opening of Flik’s Fun Fair at California Adventure.

Capitalizing on the popularity of the park’s It’s Tough To Be A Bug attraction and the Pixar film “A Bug’s Life,” Disney expanded the facilities and renamed the area A Bug’s Land. (The other three areas are The Golden State, Hollywood Pictures Backlot and Paradise Pier.)

Within A Bug’s Land is Flik’s Fun Fair, with rides and activities geared toward young children. Included are Flik’s Flyers, a bug-size air-balloon ride fashioned from leaves and empty food containers; Tuck & Roll’s Drive ’Em Buggies, a drive-it-yourself bug car ride under P.T. Flea’s circus tent; Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train, a miniature railroad ride; Francis’ Ladybug Boogie, a ride on spinning, dancing ladybugs; and Princess Dot Puddle Park, a water playground with a giant-size garden hose, sprinkler nozzle and leaky spigot.

Meanwhile, in Disneyland, Halloween scares are the focus of the Haunted Mansion Holiday. Characters from the Tim Burton film “Nightmare Before Christmas” will roam the attraction, playing gags on visitors.

Premiering Dec. 9 for an extended run is Disney’s “Aladdin: Live On Stage,” a new musical playing at the Hyperion Theater in California Adventure. Based on the Walt Disney animated film, the show tells the story of Aladdin and his adventures involving his beautiful princess Jasmine, her father the sultan, the evil Jafar and Aladdin’s buddy, Genie. The 30-minute production features songs from the film.

Disneyland will offer its usual special holiday events with Christmas celebrations, the unveiling of the park’s traditionally decorated 60-foot Christmas tree and, beginning Thanksgiving Day, A Christmas Fantasy parade performs daily.

The holiday season also features Believe ... in Holiday Magic, a special version of the park’s fireworks display that ends with simulated snowfall.

For package reservations, call the Walt Disney Travel Co. at 800-854-3104. Web site: www.disney travelagents.com.
