Renowned as a foodie-friendly area with excellent wine, Sonoma County invites tourists to experience its natural treasures as well. Sonoma County has compiled a broad array of activities and tours to showcase its great outdoors.
For those who prefer to stay closer to the root of Sonoma’s culinary fame, there are a number of tours that allow visitors to gain a better understanding of the production behind the region’s produce. Tours such as the Sonoma Marin Cheese Trail, Farm Tours at McClelland’s Dairy and Sonoma Vineyard Adventures allow tourists to get a unique look at dairy and wine production in the county.
Activities such as Sonoma Canopy tours, which includes zip-lining in the coastal redwoods, and Up and Away Ballooning, cater to adventure-seekers. Up and Away Ballooning is the first hot-air balloon company in the U.S. to offer passenger baskets that are able to accommodate wheelchair-confined passengers.
For more traditional outdoor adventurers, Spelunking Sonoma Style and Peddle and Paddle Tours offer active entertainment. Several vineyards, including Alexander Valley Vineyards and Gundlach Bundschu, invite visitors to take tours of their wine caves. The Peddle and Paddle tour combines morning bike rides, wine tasting and afternoon kayaking on the Russian River.
