The Olympic Experience at Park City

Feb 02, 2010

Comet Bobsled Rides // (c) 2010

"Comet" Bobsled Ride

While Vancouver, Canada, readies itself for the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics Games, the site of the 2002 Winter Games, Park City, Utah, is offering clients of all ages a chance to indulge their inner Olympians. At various resorts throughout Park City, clients can enroll in fun, introductory courses in nearly all Olympic disciplines.

For example, clients can feel a rush of adrenaline on The Comet bobsled ride as they speed down the 2002 Olympic ice track in a four-person sled at the Utah Olympic Park. Open to the pubic, a trained pilot will drive three passengers (ages 16 and older) through 15 curves, reaching speeds of up to 80 mph. Bobsled rides are $200 per person. www.olyparks.com/uop/rides.asp

For clients who want to learn how to “shred” on the slopes, The Canyons Resort features a Burton Learn to Ride program with beginner-specific equipment and instruction to help novices easily carve down the mountain on the first day. Beginner snowboarders, ages 15 and up, receive a lift ticket, full-day lesson and equipment rental for $99. Lessons are available daily.

Skiers can perfect their slalom turns at Deer Valley Resort. With the three-day Mahre Training Center Ski Camp, participants will receive partial ski instruction from Olympic medal winners Phil and Steve Mahre. In addition to six hours of daily instruction by Deer Valley’s top ski coaches, clients will get a video analysis of their performance. The cost of the clinic is $712, including lift tickets, and runs Feb. 5-7. Additional specialty ski development lessons run through the winter.

Also providing ski and snowboard instruction, the National Ability Center’s instructional programs at Park City Mountain Resort provide outdoor recreational opportunities to individuals with disabilities. Full-day and two-hour lessons are available on a daily basis, and prices are based on a sliding scale.
