Spring break this year will find the University of Arizona campus not deserted but bustling. From March 9–10, the UA Mall will be teeming with authors and readers as the Tucson Festival of Books enters its fifth year. This free two-day festival, the fourth-largest of its kind in the United States, promises a full schedule of presentations, signings and panel discussions for lovers of the written word, as well as a host of food vendors so attendees can enjoy some local flavor between activities. Among more than 400 authors who will attend this year are best-sellers Diana Gabaldon, Jodi Picoult, John Sayles and celebrated children’s author R.L. Stine. This year will also see the first Tucson Festival of Books Literary Awards (a writing competition) and a Masters Workshop for those who want to develop their craft.
