Imiloa Astronomy Center, located in Hilo on Hawaii's BIg Island, has introduced two new planetarium shows: We Are Astronomers and Our Place in Space.
We Are Astronomers looks at the global collaboration, technology and dedication required to answer the unresolved questions of the universe. The show shows technologies such as the Large Hadron Collider and the observatories of Chile and the Hubble Space Telescope at work and how they are used by teams around the world. Narrated by David Tennant, it provides a visual tour of contemporary astronomy using 360-degree digital planetarium imagery. It was produced by National Space Center Creative with input from astronomers.
Our Place in Space is aimed at young viewers. Host Scarlet McCaw journeys around the world to solve clues while learning about astronomical concepts. Audiences explore the sun with Indy the Elephant and spot favorite constellations with Paula the Polar Bear, while Crusty Crocodile launches a trip through the solar system.
We Are Astronomers plays at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. daily, while Our Place in Space plays at 10 a.m. on Saturdays.
Imiloa continues to offer its signature planetarium show, Maunakea: Between Earth and Sky, at 11 a.m., as well as Awesome Light: Big Mirrors on the Mountain at 2 p.m. daily.
