Uncommon Journeys is offering a 17-day Alaska getaway that incorporates time spent on both a classic streamliner train and a Dutch ocean liner. This allows guests to depart from California by train and travel in comfort and style to Alaska — all without a single flight, airport or bus ride.
The Great Alaskan Adventure begins with train travel to San Francisco, where guests enjoy an overnight stay at the Hilton San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf. There will be ample time to explore the city before departure by train (guests may also add a night or two in San Francisco, taking advantage of special hotel rates).
Train accommodations include a swank lounge and dining room, and guests enjoy comfortable Pullman sleeping car accommodations and in-room restroom facilities. All meals, wines and spirits are included, along with a number of luxury amenities, from welcome gifts to afternoon tea. Onboard, clients will also find an attentive staff, fresh flowers and dining overseen by chef Regina Charboneau.
The train ride includes a daylight crossing of the Cascade Mountain Range and a passage along Puget Sound before an evening arrival in Seattle where guests will spend two nights at the downtown Warwick Seattle Hotel. Afterward, clients embark on a short scenic train ride to Vancouver for a two-day stay, which includes a city tour and afternoon tea overlooking the English Bay.
From Vancouver, guests board a Dutch ocean liner for a three-day voyage up the Inside Passage to Alaska. Port calls are made in Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan. Highlights include a cruise through the lesser-visited Tracy Arm, before ending the trip in San Diego, Calif. Special onboard amenities include intimate cocktail parties, dinner in the Pinnacle Grill one evening and more.
The trip takes place Sept. 7-23. Prices begin at $2,895 per person.
