More Mickey

The Disneyland Hotel recently completed a $50 million property enhancement project.

The upgrade included a $15,000 redecoration in Disney decor for each of the 990 guest rooms. The new rooms feature Tinker Bell wallpaper, images of Mickey Mouse, stars and moons from “Fantasia” and mirrors and Sneezy characters from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Other room enhancements include standard beds with new headboards picturing Sleeping Beauty Castle, bedspreads depicting 12 classic attractions from the theme park’s opening day in 1955 and new guest room armoires commemorating Disneyland park’s inaugural year.

Surf’s Up

For those who love to be pampered, the new Aquaterra Spa at the Surf & Sand Resort in Laguna Beach, offers a variety of facial and body treatments.

Treatments are based on four essences: ocean (thalassotherapy), earth (warm mud and clay detoxifying treatments), botanicals (aromatherapy utilizing local flora) and art (practitioners of physical and healing arts).

They include the seaweed revitalizer, reflexology, a maternity massage, an aloe vera wrap, a sea-salt scrub and massage lessons for couples. Rates start at $55.

The AAA Four Diamond seaside resort, considered a top hotel in Laguna Beach, offers 165 guest rooms, including 13 suites, with furnished outdoor private oceanview terraces and marble baths with separate showers.

Splashes, the property’s seaside restaurant, provides floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto beachfront patios for alfresco dining. Mediterranean cuisine options include fresh seafood, grilled meats and poultry using regional ingredients with fresh herbs and spices, pizzas, pasta and salads. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Recreational activities include surfing, fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving, all arranged by the hotel’s concierge. A cantilevered, seaside swimming pool, a Jacuzzi and poolside food and cocktail service also are available.

Summer rates are $385 to $485 for rooms and $475 to $1,125 for suites.
