American Sommelier is bringing a six-day intensive version of its flagship 24-week-long Viticulture & Vinification Course to the Roosevelt Hotel, in Hollywood, Calif. The immersion program will be held March 26-31 and will feature American Sommelier president and CEO Andrew Bell as the primary lecturer.
“Students who start the course not knowing how to choose an appropriate bottle of wine graduate with an A-to-Z understanding of wine they can really use,” said Bell. “The comprehensive curriculum is so well received that close to 85 percent of students who participate in the course for credit earn a passing grade.”
Although the course is recommended for professionals in the wine and hospitality industries, it offers an in-depth education for all wine aficionados. The course uses the same curriculum as the 24-week-long course and covers a weighty amount of information, including varieties, climate, geography, soil, wine making, industry regulations, grape-growing economics and food pairings. Daily sessions will consist of a series of region-based lectures paired with wines that reflect key points, with the last 30 minutes dedicated to questions and review. At the end of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion and graduates will receive the American Sommelier silver pin.
Tuition for the course is $3,000, with limited scholarships for students who can demonstrate a need for financial aid. The early registration deadline is Feb. 1.
