Demand for U.S. Ski Destinations Is Rising; Here Are the Most Popular and Affordable Spots for the 2024-25 Season

Vacation rental marketplace HomeToGo recently reported a significant uptick in searches for U.S. ski destination accommodations for the upcoming 2024-25 winter season, rising 29% year over year. 

The annual Ski Season Report also found Gore Mountain, New York, to be the most affordable ski destination this winter, with a total daily cost of $195.02 per person, including lift tickets and accommodation. Mount Baker, Washington, and Whitefish, Montana, follow at $200.92 and $223.02 per person per day, respectively.

When it comes to trendiest ski spots, search data indicates shifting traveler preferences, with Powder Mountain, Utah, emerging as the fastest-growing destination, recording a 150% year-over-year increase in searches. Other destinations recording a year-over-year increase in interest include Deer Valley, Utah (up 101%); Mount Baker, Washington (up 71%); and Stratton Mountain, Vermont (up 51%). That said, traditional destinations maintain their appeal, with Breckenridge, Colorado, ranking as the most searched location, followed by Park City, Utah, and Vail, Colorado.

"As we approach the 2024-25 winter sports season, HomeToGo has recorded a year-on-year increase of 29% in searches for ski region stays across the United States, signaling another bustling year for slopeside getaways," said Eleanor Moody, a spokesperson for HomeToGo. "While traditional favorites remain popular, our data reveals growing interest in hidden-gem destinations like Mount Baker and Whitefish, which rank highly for affordability, suggesting that travelers are seeking more budget-friendly options for ski trips."

The data also shows that travelers are planning longer stays, with the average trip duration increasing 20% compared to the previous season, to more than 11 days. Travel groups average four people, though Mount Baker attracts larger groups of six, and Snowbird, Utah, sees more solo travelers.

Across the surveyed destinations, the median nightly accommodation cost is $164.41, with an average daily lift ticket price of $188.15. Colorado leads as the top destination for skiers on a budget, with nine destinations featured in the affordability rankings.
