The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism reported a record-breaking 303,388 total arrivals in the first quarter of 2026, reinforcing the territory’s growing status as a leading destination within the Caribbean.
Compared to the same quarter last year, this represents a 12% increase. Compared to the first quarter of 2024, it’s a 6% increase. Among the territory’s three islands, St. Thomas led growth with 246,772 arrivals up 15% compared to 2025. St. Croix saw more modest gains, welcoming 56,616 arrivals, or a 2% increase year over year.
“We are seeing sustained demand across our islands, supported by strategic marketing efforts, strong industry partnerships and the unique experiences that set the U.S. Virgin Islands apart,” said Jennifer Matarangas-King, commissioner of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism.
The agency attributes much of this growth to continued demand from U.S. travelers and expanded marketing efforts, including sports and media partnerships with the NFL, MLB and iHeartRadio. Promotion of the territory’s various Carnival celebrations has also increased the destination’s visibility and sparked greater interest. To sustain growth throughout 2026, the Department of Tourism plans to continue its focus on airlift enhancements, partnerships and promotions.
