In Hawaii, kokua means to help, and that's what visitors are doing thanks to a new program from Four Seasons Resorts Lanai.
Guests of the island's two luxury hotels can participate in the Kokua Project, which has them caring for local animals at the Lanai Animal Rescue Center. Volunteer activities include socializing cats, painting kitty "condos," helping with general maintenance of the facility, gardening, weeding and pruning. As they work alongside Lanai locals, clients build a meaningful connection to the community, said Four Seasons general manager Tom Roelens.
"From families to solo travelers, everyone benefits from this enriching program and all can participate," said Roelens. "There are no special skills required to lend a hand."
The program is available to guests of Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay and Lodge at Koele.
